Summer Juniors qualifier Audrey Crawford has announced her verbal commitment to Auburn University, beginning in the fall of 2024.
Crawford is currently a junior at Hamilton Southeastern High School, and swims year-round with Southeastern Swim Club, in Fishers, Indiana.
“I am so excited to officially announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Auburn University. Thank you to my family, all of my friends, teammates and especially the coaches at @southeasternswimclub for supporting me through every step of this decision. Very special thank you to Coach @rwochomurka , @aucoachabbie and the rest of the Auburn coaches for giving me this amazing opportunity. I cannot wait for this new chapter in my life and to be apart of the Auburn family. As always War Eagle! #WDE”
Crawford was featured in the Best of the Rest butterfly section of SwimSwam’s Way Too Early Recruit Ranks for the high school class of 2024. She owns Speedo Summer Junior National qualifying times in the 100 fly, 200 IM, and 200 breast.
Top SCY Times:
- 100 free – 50.86
- 100 fly – 54.36
- 200 fly – 2:01.95
- 200 breast – 2:17.75
- 200 IM – 2:01.96
- 400 IM – 4:21.82
Crawford competed at Speedo Summer Juniors in August, where she recorded a personal best in the 200 fly (2:23.42). Her highest finish was 32nd in the 200 IM, where she clocked a season best of 2:31.34. She also recently competed at the FINA World Cup stop in Indianapolis, where she swam a 1:01.78 100m fly and 2:16.61 200m IM to place 21st in both.
Last high school season, she recorded three personal bests at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Championships. She placed 2nd in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 54.36, as well as 5th in the 200 IM with a 2:01.96. Additionally, Crawford led off her high school team’s 400 freestyle relay with a best time of 50.86.
Auburn finished 7th out of 12 teams at the 2022 SEC Championship. Crawford’s best 100 fly time is currently just outside of SEC scoring range, as it took a 53.40 to advance to the C-final last year. The 100 fly was one of Auburn’s weakest events, as current sophomore Ellie Waldrep was the only scorer in the event, placing 23rd with a 53.47. Crawford will overlap with Waldrep for a year in Auburn.
Auburn’s fly group appears to be much deeper this season. Senior Claudia Thamm is the fastest performer on the team in the 100 fly. She posted a 53.18 at the Georgia Fall Invitational last month. Auburn also has four other athletes who have swam 53s this year: Lexie Mulvihill (53.23), Carly Sebring (53.58), Abby Gibbons (53.67), and Avery Bargeron (53.71).
Crawford joins Ashlyn Morr, Izzy Iwasyk, Carly Bixby, Georgia Colborn, Audrey Olen, and Amie Perna in Auburn’s class of 2028. Colborn and Bixby also swim fly, with Colborn holding best times of 54.35/1:58.95, and Bixby owning times of 54.53/2:05.49. Olen, Morr, and Iwasyk are all freestylers, while Perna specializes primarily in backstroke.
