Buffalo, N.Y. – The Bowling Green State University women’s swim and dive team opened their regular season with a strong performance against Buffalo, Cornell, and Eastern Michigan.
Sophomore Daisy Platts led the way for the Falcons, winning three events and setting personal bests in the 100-yard individual medley and 50-yard backstroke. Sarah Hennings added a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, with Anna Eriksson placing in the top three in three events. Eriksson also obtained a personal best in the 50-yard butterfly. In her collegiate debut, freshman Taylor Harris finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
On the diving side, Talisa Lemke kicked off her senior campaign with a second place finish in the 1 meter dive and a third place finish in the 3 meter dive. Bowling Green saw success with their relay teams as well. The 400-yard medley relay team consisting of Platts, Harris, Hennings, and Lauren Sullivan finished second overall. Also finishing second was the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sullivan, Platts, Maddy Andrews, and Shaunna Jones. Platts, Harris, Hennings, and Noelle Lavigne placed third in the 200-yard medley relay.
First Place Falcons
- Daisy Platts won the 100-yard IM with a time of 58.58 seconds, her personal best.
- Platts also set a personal best in the 50-yard backstroke, winning with a time of 25.96 seconds.
- Platts won the 100-yard backstroke as well, finishing in 55.57 seconds.
- Sarah Hennings won the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 57.24 seconds.
Top-Five Falcons
- Anna Eriksson (25.86 seconds) and Sarah Hennings (25.93 seconds) finished third and fourth in the 50-yard butterfly.
- Eriksson obtained a new personal best with her time.
- Eriksson placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing behind Hennings in 57.52 seconds.
- Eriksson added a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, completing the race in 24.58 seconds.
- Freshman Gillian Boal placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.12 seconds.
- The 400-yard medley relay team (Platts, Harris, Hennings, Sullivan) finished in 3:54.20 to place second.
- The 200-yard medley relay team (Platts, Harris, Hennings, Lavigne) finished in 1:46.43 to place third.
- Lauren Sullivan claimed fifth place in the 50-yard backstroke, finishing in 27.31 seconds.
- Taylor Harris placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke, ending with a time of 1:07.13.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay team (Sullivan, Platts, Andrews, Jones) placed second, finishing in 3:36.52.
- Talisa Lemke placed second in the 1 meter dive with a score of 285.45.
- Lemke earned a third place finish in the 3 meter dive, scoring 267.75.

The Falcons begin their home schedule when they host MAC opponent Ohio on Friday, Oct. 25. The meet begins at 5 p.m. in Cooper Pool. It will be a pink-out, as well as the Meserve Cup Meet. Admission is free, come support the Orange and Brown!

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team opened their 2019-20 campaign on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Cornell and MAC foes Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan.
The Bulls started off the day strong as they swept the top-three spots in the 200 yard freestyle relay. First place was Jillian Lawton, Katie Burns, Antonia Naccarella and Andrea Ernst in 1:33.84. Second place was Elinor Duley, Olivia Sapio, Katie Pollock and Jenna Krull in a time of 1:36.17. Finishing in third place with a time of 1:37.93 was Sydnie Sovinsky, Allie Stockwell, Anna Vitolins, and Maddy Rogan.
In the 400 yard medley relay, Nicole Roitenberg, Jillian Lawton, Jenna Krull and Antonia Naccarella finished in first place in an impressive time of 3:50.03.
Roitenberg wasn’t done for the day as she helped lead her teammates to a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Andrea Ernst, Katie Pollock and Katie Burns helped the Bulls to the first place finish in a time of 1:45.97.
To top off the afternoon, the Bulls claimed first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay with the efforts from Brittney Breetcher, Andrea Ernst, Jillian Lawton and Olivia Sapio in a time of 3:29.97.
“I was very pleased,” stated Head Coach Andy Bashor. “The energy they brought from the beginning of the meet all the way through, that is something we talk about and it was great to see. We went out there and raced, we competed. It was really good to see in the first meet of the year.”
In the diving events, the Bulls took home first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Highlighting the diving events was Victoria Franz who took home first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 286.35 and second place in the 3-meter dive while scoring a 271.70. In her first collegiate meet, she qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones. Finishing in first in the 3-meter dive was Journi Northorp with a score of 283.10.
The Bulls’ next meet is Saturday, Oct. 26 at noon as they will square off against MAC opponent Ball State at the Alumni Arena Natatorium.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team opened the 2019-20 season with 14 top-three finishes across both swimming and diving events at the University at Buffalo Saturday, October 19.
Highlighting performances from the Eagles, senior Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South) turned in two second-place results. One in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 59.39, and the other in the 50-yard backstroke at 26.37.
Amelia Armstrong-Grant (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Saline) posted second, third, and fourth place finishes in freestyle events. The senior took second in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:56.38, third in the 100-yard freestyle at 53.55, and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.76.
Senior Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) turned in a 56.52 second-place finish the 100-yard backstroke and third-place in the 50-yard backstroke, touching the wall with 26.84 on the clock.
Juniors Riley Hofmann (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) and Alyssa Shugarman (Oswego, Ill.-Oswego) also each claimed a top-two spot. For Hoffman, it was in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:31.82, and Shugarman in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:50.17.
The Eagles host their first home meet under new head coach Derek Perkins next Saturday, October 26, at 2 p.m. at Jones Natatorium.
