Bowling Green Women Earn Second Victory In As Many Days Over Ball State Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team took on Ball State today. The Falcons fared well in their first MAC meet of the year winning 174.5-124.5.

The Falcons captured their second victory in as many days thanks to a strong all-around performance. Today’s meet opened with another exceptional performance from the divers. Rayah Blood won the 3-Meter Dive with a score of 265.73. Elise Snyder earned her own top three finish thanks to a score of 235.80. The swimmers then went to work.

The Falcon swimmers won four straight events before starting the 1-Meter Dive . Emily McNicol swam to first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 56.65. Maddie Gallagher and Taylor Harris both finished in the top three in the 100 Breaststroke with Gallagher winning the event with a time of 1:04.79. In the next event Fabiana D’Ambrogio won the 200 Butterfly with Ava Vial following right behind her. Riley McNichols then picked up the win in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.18 and had fellow Falcon Elayna Krupp on her toes with a time of 24.31 and a secon-place finish.

The 1-Meter Dive showcased a sweep of the podium by the Orange and Brown. Grace Ellis won the event with a score of 258.45 and then was followed by Julia Januszewska with a score of 245.93 and Elise Snyder with a score of 239.33.

To close out the meet the Falcons won three more times in the 100 Freestyle, 200 IM, and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Emily McNicol earned her second solo win of the day in the 100 Freestyle and swam the first leg in the second of two victorious Falcon relay teams. Ava Vial swam to her second top three finish in the 200 IM winning by mere milliseconds over teammate Lily Kaiser.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – – Despite six individual event wins, the Ball State women’s swimming & diving team opened the Mid-American Conference dual portion of its season with a 174.5-124.5 setback at Bowling Green Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Cardinals at Cooper Pool was junior Marcella Ribeiro with wins in the 200 (1:53.73) and 500 (5:07.35) freestyle events, giving her three total event victories on the young season.

Sophomore Hannah Jones picked up her fourth event win of the 2022-23 campaign, and third of the weekend, in the 100 butterfly as she clocked in at 57.16.

Freshmen Alyssa Messenger and Kiran Stauffer added their second individual event wins in as many days, with Messenger touching first in the 200 backstroke (2:05.69) and Stauffer in the 1000 freestyle (10:33.13).

Also picking up her second individual event win of the weekend was senior Laura Wright in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.47).

In addition to the six event wins, the Cardinals added seven runner-up efforts at the meet.

The Ball State women’s swimming & diving continues MAC dual season next Saturday, when it hosts Akron at Noon at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
