RICKEY’S REACTIONS
“Today’s win was a team effort. We didn’t win as many events as we hoped but the team depth came through when we needed it. Diving carried us with the divers going 1,2, and 3. Our flyers also went 1,2, and 3 in the 100 Butterfly. Our 200 IM crew swept the last individual event. We will go back to work on Monday to get ready for Ohio at home.”

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings women’s swimming & diving team fell to Bowling Green 165-135 in its Pink Meet on Saturday afternoon. Cleveland State has raised $2,580 thus far for First Descents to provide life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults impacted by cancer.

“Our program embodied resilience today both in the pool and in our effort to support First Descents,” said coach Burandt. “Thank you to the Paxson family for donating so we could buy our pink shirts and caps, to Arena for donating the bags we raffled off, to Kendra Scott for donating a pink necklace, and to our men’s team for selling raffle tickets! We came together and achieved our goal of raising $2,500. First Descents is an organization that is truly near and dear to our program’s heart, and I am so proud of our team for the work put into today’s fundraiser.”

The goal was to raise $2,500 and you can still help the Green and White continue to topple that: DONATE NOW.

Cleveland State swept the two relays on the afternoon, starting with the 200-yard medley relay as Grace ChelfGrace ButcherAudrey Butcher, and Ana Sofia Sousa clocked a 1:46.63. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kayla Brock, Chelf, Ella Ciez, and Sousa finished in 3:33.00.

Coach Burandt continued, “In the pool, we were VERY competitive with BGSU. The last time we faced them, we were deer in headlights. Today, our women started the meet by diving fiercely and opened the swim portion with a ridiculously fast relay. We had over five people with lifetime bests. Grace was faster today than she was at Horizon League last year, and finishing the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay will be a memory I will always cherish.”

The Vikings went first and second in the 1000-yard freestyle as Madison Taker (10:35.30) finished ahead of Mackenzie Lipnick (10:39.91).

Sousa won two individual events on the day; the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.32) and 100-yard freestyle (52.48).

Chelf sprinted to the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in 24.15.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Kellsie Krisch was victorious after putting up a time of 2:23.97.

Lipnick rounded out the wins on the day as she claimed the 500-yard freestyle after clocking a 5:12.58. Taker was right behind her with a time of 5:13.23.

The Vikings will take to the road to face IUPUI on Friday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.
