Brad Snyder won the top Paralympic honors tonight at the U.S. Olympic Committee Awards, taking home the award for Male Athlete of the Paralympic Games.
Snyder scored four medals at the Rio Paralympic Games this summer with three golds (S11 50, 100, & 400 free) and a silver (S11 100 back). His winning 100 freestyle performance tore down a 30-year-old world record by half a second.
Also nominated for the Male Athlete of the Paralympic Games Award were Will Groulx (cycling), Steve Serio (wheelchair basketball), Andre Shelby (archery), and Roderick Townsend (track and field).
Past winners of the award, extended into Paralympic Sportsman and Sportswoman categories in 2004, include Steve Cash (sled hockey), Taylor Chace (sled hockey), Raymond Martin (track and field), and Joe Berenyi. You can see a full list of previous winners here.
Tatyana McFadden of the American track and field team took home the Female Athlete of the Paralympic Games Award, while the U.S. women’s sitting volleyball team won the Team of the Paralympic Games Award.
Over 500 members of Team USA attended the ceremony tonight at Georgetown University’s McDonough Arena in of Washington D.C. The awards will air October 4th from 10 p.m. – 11 p.m. on the NBC Sports Network.
