Brandon Colonis Verbally Commits to Indiana

It’s been a good day for the Indiana Hoosiers. First, at their Relay Rally and Fall Frenzy meets, they (might have) set 8 World Records.

Then they got a verbal commitment from senior Brandon Colonis, a senior from Boilermaker Aquatics. That’s Boilermaker Aquatics in West Lafayette Indiana, the program loosely connect to Indiana’s big in-state rivals Purdue.

“I am very enthusiastic about wearing the Cream and Crimson next year,” Colonis said. “It will be an awesome experience to be a part of the legacy that is Indiana University swimming.”

Colonis, who is on the young side of the class, projects to be primarily a breaststroker with bests of 57.80 in the 100 yard race and 2:04.8 in the 200 yard race.

His times really stand out in long course, where he’s been a 1:06.10 and 2:19.95, the latter of which is a World Championship Trials qualifying time.

Like most of the Indiana breaststrokers, though, Colonis has some speed and versatility to his game. He’s also a 50.89 in the 100 yard fly, a race in which he finaled at the 2013 Indiana High School State Championships.

That makes him quite similar to current Hoosiers #1 and #2 breaststrokers Cody Miller and Tanner Kurz, who this year look like they could be among the Hoosiers’ best options for fly legs on the 200 medley as well.
