In total there was seven Olympic qualifiers tonight at the Maria Lenk Trophy, however five of them had already made the grade. The women’s 100 freestyle saw Larissa Oliveria win in a new South American record of 54.03, while Etiene Medeiros‘ old record of 54.26 from the Brazil Open also gives her an individual spot. Oliveira had already qualified in the 200 free, while Medeiros had done so in the 100 back.
Daynara Ferreira and Manuella Lyrio also made the team in the 400 free relay after putting up the 3rd and 4th fastest times. Ferreira has also qualified in the 100 fly, and Lyrio the 200 free.
Leonardo de Deus officially earned a berth in the 200 back after winning tonight in 1:57.57, just off his Brazil Open time of 1:57.43. He has also qualified in the 200 fly.
The final two qualifiers both were the only ones who hadn’t yet officially made the team, as Henrique Rodrigues and Thiago Pereira came in with the top two times in the 200 IM by a mile and it was merely a formality before they were going to make the team. Despite both of them having a spot all but locked up, they both fought hard to the wall, tying in 1:57.91. The time improves their times from the Brazil Open by a few tenths of a second.
