Following the conclusion of the Jose Finkel Trophy, Brazil has announced its official roster of 16 swimmers for the 2016 Short Course World Championships, which will take place in Windsor, Canada from December 6th-11th.
Five swimmers were named to the roster after meeting the Brazilian qualification standards at the Jose Finkel Trophy last weekend. Among those athletes were Rio Olympic finalists Etiene Medeiros and Felipe Franca. In Rio, Franca swam to 7th in the men’s 100m breaststroke, while Medeiros was 8th in the women’s 50 free.
- Etiene Medeiros– 50 free, 50 back
- Felipe Franca– 50/100/200 breast
- Nicholas Santos– 50 fly
- Felipe Lima– 100 breast
- Thiago Simon– 200 breast
The CBDA then filed out the 11 remaining roster spots with swimmers who had the highest FINA points score:
- Leonardo De Deus– 200 fly
- Lucas Mines– 1500 free
- Manuella Lyrio– 200 free
- Brandonn Almeida– 1500 free
- Guilherme Guido– 100 back
- Kaio Almeida– 200 fly
- Henrique Rodrigues– 200 IM
- Viviane Jungblut– 400 free
- Larissa Oliveira– 100 free
- Fernando Scheffer– 200 free
- Daiane Marcal Dias– 100 fly
In case any of the athletes should withdraw or decline to attend the meet, 6 reserves have been named who would be called up to fill the slots in order of their FINA points score from highest to lowest. The first to be called up would be Nicolas Nilo, a sprinter who competed in the 100 free and played a role in Brazil’s free relays at the Rio Olympics
