Brazil Will Send Most Of Its National Team To Orlando Pro Swim

Yesterday, the Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports (CBDA) invited the majority of Brazil’s national team members to represent the country at the Arena Pro Swim Series at Orlando March 3rd through March 5th at the YMCA Aquatic Center.

This list is not final; the athletes have until Friday to confirm or deny their participation.

The list of swimmers invited to participate at the meet very closely resembles the list of Brazilian swimmers who achieved FINA ‘A’ times at the 2015 Brazil Open, the first of two Olympic-qualifiers for the Brazilian team. Notable omissions of ‘A’ cut swimmers include nineteen-year-old Luiz Melo, double qualifier Leonardo de Deus, breaststroker Felipe Franca Silvaand junior world record holder Brandonn Almeida.

This meet will come one month before the Brazilians compete at South American Championships and a month and a half ahead of the Maria Lenk Trophy, the second and final Brazilian Olympic qualifier.

No Cielo? Very interesting – maybe he is afraid of being drug tested.

Cielo hasn’t yet achieved an ‘A’ time at an Olympic qualifier, and it looks like the CBDA is only inviting swimmers who have. Plus, Cielo is probably being careful with his schedule going into Maria Lenk, after an underwhelming Brazil Open. He also won’t compete at South American Championships.

Cielo is training in US(Arizona) and will swim some meets chosen by his coach(Scott Goodrich).
