Brazilian Caio Batista of Bolles School Commits to Mizzou for 2015-16

University of Missouri men’s swimming and diving has picked up Bolles School team captain, Brazil’s Caio Batista, for the 2015-16 season.

“I’m looking forward to swimming at Mizzou with Coach Rhody to seeing how my academic career will progress. I like the team atmosphere, which is a little similar to what we have at Bolles.”

Batista specializes in mid-distance freestyle, and was a finalist at the FHSAA 2013 Florida State Championships in the 500 free and 100 back. His best times are:

  • 200y free: 1.40.78 / 200m free: 1.56.06
  • 500y free: 4.33.73 / 400m free: 4.08.77
  • 100y back: 51.63 / 100m back: 59.68
  • 200y back: 1.52.25 / 200m back: 2.08.29

Batista is part of a strong recruiting class that also includes:

  • Alex Walton – 100 back (49.75) / 200 back (1:46.10) / 200 IM (1:51.28)
  • Griffin Schaetzle – 100 back (49.86) / 200 back (1:48.57)
  • Jordan O’Brien – 100 breast (55.58) / 200 breast (2:01.75) / 200 IM (1:52.33) / 400 IM (4:05.82)
  • Nick Staver – 100 breast (57.30) / 200 breast (2:05.83) / 200 IM (1:55.29) / 400 IM (4:04.31)

Congratulations to Caio and the wonderful Batista family!!! Mizzou has gained someone who’s not just a great swimmer and scholar, but an all-around terrific person, as well!
