Brazilian Olympian Larissa Oliveira was among the top performers at a time trial held on Saturday at Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, putting up a trio of solid swims in the women’s 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.
The 28-year-old clocked 25.72 in the 50 free, her fastest swim since the beginning of 2020, having been a best of 24.96 back in 2018. Oliveira also recorded a 56.04 in the 100 free, two seconds off her best of 54.03, and rounded things out with a 2:00.85 in the 200 free. Oliveira’s PB of 1:57.37 in the 200 is just shy of the South American Record held by Manuella Lyrio (1:57.28).
In the 200, Oliveira narrowly edged out 22-year-old Gabrielle Roncatto (2:01.25), who also clocked in a 4:48.48 in the 400 IM and a 16:52.45 in the 1500 free. Roncatto’s best times stand at 1:59.22 in the 200 free and 4:45.98 in the 400 IM, while the 1500 appears to have been the first of her career.
On the men’s side, Felipe Messias and Matheus Santana had a pair of head-to-head clashes in the sprint free events, with Messias coming out on top in both the 50 (22.31) and 100 (50.87). Santana registered respective times of 22.94 and 51.08.
Santana holds lifetime bests of 22.16 and 48.25, respectively, while Messias, who will turn 32 this year, appears to have set a new PB in the 50, having previously been 22.60 in 2019. His lifetime best in the 100 stands at 49.50, also set two years ago.
