In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges, Garrett McCaffrey, and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.
- Women’s 50/100 Free: We see a lot of usual suspects in the women’s sprints, be it Cate Campbell, Sarah Sjostrom, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Penny Oleksiak, and Abbey Weitzeil. We won’t see defending gold medalist Simone in the 100 free, but she will be swimming the 50
- Men’s 200 IM: Can Daddy Daiya or Chase Kalisz come down from the 400 IM to challenge Michael Andrew’s speed in the 200?
- Mixed 4×100 Medley Relay: Making it’s Olympic debut, we will see how different countries strategize to try to get their hand on the wall with 2 women and 2 men each

Mel, is banking on 2 worldies from Ledecky & Manuel, But just like how he wants Ledecky to in win for nostalgia, I would love as an Australian love Cate Campbell to win gold in the 50 Free.
I don’t care how MA gets it done. Just as long as he gets it done. Even if he brings it back in a 30.9 or something, I will be cheering for the kid. It’s gonna be a wacky race combined with Rowday saying something like “He’s breathing to his right!” or “I don’t think he can bring it home!” I will have my beer and chicken wings.
Not as much discussion about men’s backstroke as I expected. And SwimSwam still hasn’t published preview for either of the M backstroke event with only one day to go towards the beginning of the Games. Really no love for them? 😆
I had a very hard time picking the 100 back winner among Murphy, Rylov and Kolesnikov and I wanna know your thoughts on this one.
You are saying Simone winning would be biggest story of Olympics!?!? She has won big International meets in the 50. When talking about 50 for men, you also say missing pool time might not mean as much for the 50! I agree so her missing part of March to me with her background, I say if she wins, I won’t be surprised and definitely not the biggest story of the two weeks!
OTS.
Lmao no way they said daddy daiya
Going to go on a limb. USA will win the medley relay and both USA and Great Britain will be under the world record line.
I think the American women’s 4x100free will do better than expected — perhaps even win.
I love cheering American athletes at the Olympics! There are a few exceptions, however.
Seeing that Sweden beat the #USWNT 3-0 yesterday put a little bounce in my step and a smile on my face. “They came to kneel but not to play.”
The kneeling did not hurt them in the 2019 World Cup. They lost to the better team that day, period
There is close to zero chance that USA win the women’s 4x100m relay. Australia have 4 of the 5 fastest times, unless a DQ or they catch Covid no way the Aussies lose this.
Trashing #USWNT on a swimming web site is ridiculous enough on its face. Going out of your way to insert culture warrior nonsense is next level asinine.
Sweden knelt too.
It occurred to me recently Dressel might not be on the mixed medley. I’m not sure he’s faster than Apple after swimming 100 fly and 50 free in the same session, and Huske is looking beastly.
I think it has to be murphy andrew huske (insert whoever has the best split in the W4x100). I think the waves coming from the male swimmers in the first two legs will more than offset any theoretical time advantage you’d have from putting, say, regan in back and dressel in fly (don’t know if that’s faster on paper, just an example)
