Breaststroker Emmanuel Gadson Sends Verbal To Cornell (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Emmanuel Gadson has announced his commitment to further his education and swimming career at Cornell University this fall. Gadson currently attends Spring Hill High School and swims for Gamecock Aquatics in Columbia, South Carolina.

I chose Cornell University because I wanted to be successful in and out of the pool, and the coaches and team made me feel at home.”

Gadson, a breaststroke and butterfly specialist, represents the Bahamas internationally. This past October he qualified for finals at Pan American Games in the 200m breaststroke, ultimately finishing 16th with a time of 2:21.35. He also raced at World Juniors

Just prior to Pan Ams, Gadson competed at the South Carolina High School State Championships (4A). He took home the state title in the 100 fly (49.82), while in the 100 breast he finished 2nd in 57.22.

More recently, Gadson set a slew of personal best times at the South Carolina Senior Championships. He swept the breaststroke events with best times of 54.76 and 1:57.82, while in the 200 IM he placed 3rd in a personal best of 1:53.30. Gadson has seen massive improvement over the course of this season, as he’s dropped a total of two seconds in the 100 breast and over three in the 200.

Top SCY Times

  • 100 breast – 54.76
  • 200 breast – 1:57.82
  • 100 fly – 49.74
  • 200 IM – 1:53.30

Under the direction of head coach Wes Newman, the Cornell men placed 7th as a team at the 2024 Ivy League Championships. Gadson should make an immediate impact for Cornell at the conference level, as his best times in both breaststroke events would put him right on the bubble of qualifying for the A-final based on this year’s results.

Sebastian Wolff was the team’s top performer in both events this season. He took 5th at conference in the 100 in 53.25, while in the 200 he stopped the clock at 1:57.02 en route to 6th. Wolff is a junior this year, meaning he will overlap with Gadson for one season in Ithaca.

Gadson joins Alex Miao, Josh Toothman, and Phillip Osadsky in Cornell’s incoming class this fall. Osadsky is also a breaststroke specialist, while Miao and Toothman focus on freestyle events.
