Breaststroker Rachel Ramey Verbally Commits to Florida Gators

The University of Florida has received two high-level verbal commitments this week. In addition to the pledge from Hungary’s Liliána Szilágyi, the Gators got a “yes” from Rachel Ramey on Wednesday.

“Florida felt like home from the start. I really connected with the team and coaches, I loved the campus and the emphasis on academics. Overall I know Florida is the best place for me to grow as a student, athlete and person. I can’t wait to start next year as a Florida Gator!!”

Ramey is a senior at Heritage High School in Frisco, Texas. A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Ramey led the Coyotes to an 11th-place team finish at the 2016 Texas 5A State Championships. Ramey’s contribution included a win in the 100y breast (1:01.78), a third in the 200 IM (2:04.50), the breast leg (29.36) on the 200 medley relay, and the leadoff (24.88) in the 200 free relay. She broke the 5A record in the breast twice, with 1:01.90 in prelims, then 1:01.78 in finals.

Ramey swims for Texas Ford Aquatics year-round. She finaled in both the 100m breast (sixth, 1:11.39) and 200m breast (second, 2:30.43) at the 2016 Speedo Junior Nationals. Ramey competed in both those events at 2016 Olympic Trials; she also time-trialed the 200m IM and scored a best time.
