Brent Arckey on Importance of Amplifying All Summer McIntosh’s Events

Sarasota head coach Brent Arckey spoke with SwimSwam following the performance of one of his brightest athletes, Summer McIntosh. At the Atlanta Classic, McIntosh swam events we aren’t used to seeing her in, including the 100 breast, 50 free, and 100 fly. Arckey emphasized that as an IMer, it’s important for the developing athlete to amplify all of her events, not just the ones she holds world records in.

Summer is the most versatile female swimmer since Tracy Caulkins, so this approach is awesome.

Brent is killing it with Summer. I love the approach of treating her like and Age Group swimmer and developing 13 out of 13 events rather than focusing on her “strong” events
