The Wisconsin women will add a new member to their butterfly lineup next season, as Alex Reddington has verbally committed to join the Badgers in fall 2017.

Reddington currently resides in Colorado, but she’s also a British citizen and competes at British national meets. She swims club with coach Eric Fehr at Highlands Ranch Aquatics, and also competes for Saint Marys Academy during the high school seeason.

Last season, Reddington was a 2-time state champion at the Colorado High School 4A State Championships. There, she won both of her individual events while lowering her best times to 1:51.52 in the 200 free and 55.05 in the 100 fly.

During the long course season, Reddington competed in the British Championships, where she swam the 100 meter fly. She then went on to compete in both butterfly races at the 2016 Speedo Junior National Championships. At that meet, she was 19th in both the 100 and 200 fly with new best times of 1:01.96 and 2:15.97 respectively.

Reddington’s Top Times:

Event Best Time
100 fly 55.05
200 fly 2:02.95
200 free 1:51.52
100 back 58.06

Reddington could potentially be an immediate scorer for the Badgers at the Big Ten Championships, as she’s within tenths of what it took to score in the 100 fly last season.

If she translates her long course success into this yards season, she may be fast enough to score before she even sets foot on campus. Her best times from this summer convert to a 54.54 in the 100 fly and a 1:59.96 in the 200 fly, both of which would’ve made the C-final at 2016 Big Tens.

At Wisconsin, Reddington will help the badgers fill a gap in their lineup after Dana Grindall and Grace Wold graduate at the end of this season. Grindall was a championship finalit in both fly races at the Big Ten meet last season, while Wold was a B-finalist in both.
