British Junior National Teamer Lauren Wetherell Verbally Commits to Tennessee

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

British Junior National Team swimmer Lauren Wetherell has verbally committed to the University of Tennessee. Wetherell spent time in the United States training with the Bolles School in Florida, but has returned home to the UK and Ellesmere College.

I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Tennessee. I am looking forward to being part of the Lady Vol family! Thank you to my family, friends and coaches who have helped and supported me on my journey. GO VOLS 🍊🧡

Wetherell represented Great Britain at the 2019 European Junior Swimming Championships. She swam the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, and 800 free relay at that meet. She was unable to advance past the preliminary rounds of any of her individual events, but won a silver medal as a prelims-only swimmer on Britain’s 800 free relay. Her best individual finish was 8th-place in the timed final of the women’s 800 free.

As an 8th grader, she swam up with the Bolles High School team where she was a member of their 2016-2017 Florida 1A State Championship team. At that meet, she finished 16th in the 500 yard free.

This is Tennessee’s 2nd dip into the islands of the North Atlantic over the last few weeks. Irish National Record holder Mona McSharry, a breaststroker, recently committed to join Tennessee as well – though she’s scheduled to arrive a year earlier in the fall of 2020.

Nice replacement for Nunan and our distance group.

I feel like that McSharry commitment got lost in the shuffle of a big news day. She’d easily be a top 5 recruit if she was ranked.

Anyone know if Dune Coetzee intends to swim collegiately?

Wow! Seems like the Vols are picking up a lot of great recruits for the class of 2021. What number does this one make?

The Lauren girl is good but will have limited potential once Ellesmere are done with her.
