British Swimming Announces First Round Of Entries For The British Gas International

Today British Swimming announced some of the high profile athletes who have registered for the 2014 British Gas International so far. Athletes have until June 4th to enter the meet that will be held from June 24th-28th in Manchester.

Olympic champion and world record holder Ruta Meilutyte will be swimming the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, the 50 butterfly along with the 50 and 100 breaststroke. Meilutyte currently stands on top of the world rankings in both breaststroke events having recorded a 29.92 in the 50 and a 1:05.63 in the 100.

200 breaststroke Olympic silver medalist Michael Jamieson along with his Bath teammate Andrew Willis will be swimming the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Willis beat Jamieson by one one-hundredth of a second in the 200 breaststroke at the World Championships last summer. Adam Peaty, who came second in the 200 breaststroke at the British Gas National Championships earlier this year will be competing in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

Other British National team members that have already entered the meet include Craig McNally (50, 100 and 200 backstroke), Chris Walker-Hebborn (100 freestyle, 50 and 100 backstroke), Jazz Carlin (400 freestyle), Jemma Lowe (100 and 200 butterfly) and Aimee Willmott (200 freestyle, breaststroke and IM).

I believe the home based swimmers in the Danish European championships squad and the Great Danes will be competing here, as well as the Monaco and Canet Mare Nostrum meets.

I guess Nick Juba wants a few days back home 🙂
