19-year old Canadian Brittany MacLean injured her hamstring on Friday evening at the 2013 Canadian World Championship Trials, but still raced through the injury to a respectable 4:12.38 for 4th place.
She has decided to scratch the 800 free on Saturday, where she was the third seed coming in in 8:33.70.
Her spot on the team for this summer’s World Championship Trials was secured on Wednesday in the 200 free. There she finished 3rd in 1:59.53 to secure her spot as a member of the 800 free relay that will head to Barcelona this summer.
MacLean still has not received a diagnoses for her injury, but will be re-evaluated by doctors in the morning.
MacLean represents Etobicoke swimming who, barring anything more serious with this injury, will be competing on her third-straight major international team this year, after qualifying for the Shanghai World Championships in 2011 and the London Olympics in 2012. There, she finished 7th in 4:06.24.
MacLean recently finished an incredibly successful freshman season at the University of Georgia. She finished in the top 16 of both the 200 and 500 freestyles, and as high as 7th in the 1650 free. She was also a member of the Georgia NCAA title winning 800 free relay, and the Bulldogs’ overall team national title.
Brittanyyyyyy….take care of yourself….we need you next year to defend our title.
