Just weeks out from the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, four-time Olympian Bronte Campbell revealed staying calm amongst the noise was just as important as banking time in the water.
The Dolphins have settled into their last block of hard training in Canet, deep in the south of France and Campbell said: “Training and then staging camp is important as it’s the last few weeks of hard work.”
“We work hard and then taper … right now is our chance to refine a few things, look at our skills … it’s like the last chance of tuning the race cars before sending them out on the track.
“(But) this time is about not getting in your head too much.
“It’s good to be excited about the Games but it’s also good to move on quickly. Every person here has earned their spot, and they know what to do when it gets serious … but the downtime can get in your head a little bit.”
Campbell, who is back training in an outdoor pool for the first time in four years, also said her calf had completely healed from a 4cm tear that she suffered in April.
“It’s healed well, and travelled well … I am back to full load. People said once you get over 30 they take longer to recover … I did it just before 30 so that was a nice pressie for myself.”

Campbell, who turned 30 in May, qualified for her fourth straight Olympic team at the Australian Olympic Trials in June, placing 4th in the women’s 100 freestyle to earn a spot on the 400 free relay in Paris.
The three-time Olympic medalist has five world titles to her name, including claiming a pair of individual golds in the women’s 50 and 100 free at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan.
Bronte looks really good in the water. High hopes for great relay swims at her last Olympics.
It was good to see the video yesterday and hear her body appears to be in its’ best shape for some time.
They don’t have to worry about getting in their own heads…. the US will take care of that.
Are you saying the US are in the heads of the Australian 4 x 100 free relay team? Do you even follow swimming?
Too late, we’re already there
Ditto what Jeff said above.
