One day before the phone calls from coaches around the country could start rolling in, Brooke Hansen told the Loveland Reporter Herald that she has verbally committed to swim for the University of Texas. She will graduate high school in 2015 and will join the longhorns in the fall of 2015. She narrowed her final decision down to three schools; Arizona, Wisconsin, and Texas.
Brooke Hansen is the niece of the former head coach at the University of Arizona and Wisconsin, Eric Hansen.
Throughout her career, she has seen what the recruiting process can look like and decided she didn’t want to be apart of it. She joked that she was looking forward to not having phone calls so she could take that time to relax and focus on swimming.
“It’s been a stress reliever,” Hansen said. “I visited the places, and I felt I was confident enough to make my decision, and it was nice to let the other coaches know where I wasn’t going to be going. I don’t have to worry about it anymore, so I can concentrate on my swimming.
“I just know how tough it is to start a new year, then going on trips and being away from training, and especially because Junior Nationals are so early in the winter. I wanted to avoid that, and I felt I had enough information, that I didn’t need to know any more than I did.”
Hansen also told the Loveland Reporter Herald that Texas’ coach, Carol Capitani really impressed her. She enjoys coach Capitani’s coaching style and was drawn in by her welcoming personality.
Brooke Hansen is a two-time Colorado 5A State Champion. She won the 100 breaststroke as a sophomore and won the 200 IM this previous year.

It says “Gives Texas First Verbal Commitment from Class of 2015.”, meaning that she gave Texas the first commit not he overall class of 2015.
@Gator: I was trying to communicate that she is the first recruit to commit to Texas from the class of 2015. Sorry if the title was a bit confusing! Both Katie Ledecky and Carsten Vissering have already committed from the class of 2015. Hope that clears things up!
