Indiana University junior swimmer Brooklynn Snodgrass was honored as the Swim Alberta International Female Swimmer of the Year in an awards ceremony Saturday night at the Swim Alberta Awards Banquet, Conference and Annual General Meeting.
Snodgrass, who also represents Cascade Swim Club in Calgary, was selected for the honor based on her performance this summer at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships in Australia. Representing Canada, Snodgrass took home a bronze medal in the 400 medley relay at the meet in August.
In what was a busy summer of international swimming, Snodgrass also earned a bronze medal in the 50-meter backstroke in July at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Snodgrass is coming off a breakthrough 2013-14 season that saw her win an NCAA Championship in the 200-yard backstroke and repeat as Big Ten Champion in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke. The 2014 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year, Snodgrass returns to anchor an IU backstroke lineup that produced five of the top seven finishers in the 200-yard backstroke at the conference meet last season.
The Hoosiers open the 2014-15 season on October 10 as SEC power Auburn visits the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The 1 p.m. ET meet will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
