BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team held its annual Orange vs. Brown Meet today at Cooper Pool. This year, the coaching staff introduced a new format to the meet. The swimmers on each team knew the order they would compete in, but they did not know the event. The coaches had a predetermined order of events, and the swimmers were informed of their event shortly before taking their place on the blocks.
The Brown team defeated the Orange team 138-115. This is the first time since 2009 the Brown team has claimed victory in the Orange vs. Brown Meet. They began the day strong with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind Lauren Sullivan, Gillian Boal, Ashleigh Franks, and Maddy Andrews. Sullivan and Andrews, both juniors, won individual events for the Brown team. Sullivan won a fast-paced 50-yard freestyle, while Andrews outlasted the rest of the swimmers to win the 500-yard freestyle.
The Brown team enjoyed the success of their first-year student-athletes in relays and individual events. Gillian Boal was a key member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team, Inbar Mark won the 100 backstroke, Taylor Harris won the 200-yard breaststroke, Malika Haver won the 1-meter dive, and Julia Januszewska won the platform dive.
The Orange team saw success from Daisy Platts, a 2018-19 first team All-MAC selection. Platts won the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard freestyle. Platts, Kasie Perretta, Sarah Hennings, and Noelle Lavigne won the day’s final event, the 200-yard medley relay. Hennings also won the 200-yard backstroke. Overall, the Orange team featured a winner in 7 of the 13 individual events.

Coach’s Quote
“Our goal for the day was to compete to the best of our ability and have fun competing. That was why we had the events lined up the way we did, we wanted them to worry about competing rather than getting the best time. Our team spirit was fantastic, I thought our girls had a lot of fun and competed well.”
