Bryant’s Matthew Mays Earns MAAC Swimmer Of The Week

Press Release courtesy of Bryant Athletics

Freshman Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) was honored with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week after his record-setting performances against Bucknell on Friday night at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

Mays again won all four of his races this weekend against Bucknell and was a part of two pool-record efforts. He set his second individual record in as many meets as a Bulldog, swimming a 1:52.43 time in the 200 back and then was part of the team’s 400 free relay who set a pool record in the meet’s final event.

Along with those two races, he clocked in first-place finishes in the 200 free and 200 fly in a Bulldogs 199-89 victory over the Bison.

Mays is the first swimmer since Ben Schulte (Tumon, Guam) in 2014 to win a weekly award from the MAAC and the first freshman to win an award in program history.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday night when they take on in-state rival Providence, with the first race commencing at 6:00 p.m. at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.
