Bryant’s Mays, Groenewold Sweep NEC Men’s Weekly Swimming Awards

Somerset, N.J. – Matthew Mays and Calvin Groenewold of the Bryant University men’s swimming and diving team have been named the Northeast Conference Swimmer and Rookie of the Week by the organization on Thursday.

Mays has been named the NEC Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season. In the win against UCONN, Mays won both the 100 and 200 back with times of 50.09 and 1:51.81. He was also apart of the winning relay teams in the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Groenewold earned the NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The freshman won the 200 breast by posting a time of 2:09.89 and claimed third in the 100 breast (59.05). He also helped his team win the 200 medley relay.

Fellow classmate Brandon Naylor was named an NEC Primed Performer. Naylor won both 200 fly (1:59.41) and the 200 IM with a time of 4:22.37.

The Black and Gold will conclude the regular season this Saturday in a road meet against Boston University.
