Bucknell Sweeps Lehigh On Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team improved to 6-2 (5-2 PL) with a 181-109 victory over Lehigh, which concluded the team’s dual meet competition this season. The Bison took first place in nine events and finished as runners-up in seven more. Bucknell also claimed the top three spots in three different races against the Mountain Hawks.

Final Results

Bucknell’s seniors, which were recognized prior to the meet, were well represented as they contributed to five of the team’s wins. Seniors Alexandra RitortoSabrina Vumbacco and Sophia Donati teamed up with junior Esme Hunter to take first place in the 200 medley relay.

Vumbacco also earned wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle, while Hunter took first in the 100 backstroke. Junior Kayla Lichtner was a two-time champion on Saturday as well, taking first in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. Litchner later swam the anchor leg of the second-place 200 medley relay.

Senior Catherine Craig added another win to her resume in the 200 breaststroke, while Emma Feld (1000 freestyle) and Liz Dokina (100 breaststroke) rounded out the Bison first-place finishers. Feld also secured second place in the 200 backstroke.

Bucknell took the top three spots in the 200 medley relay, the 1000 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke.

Bucknell is back home next weekend to host the Bison Invite on Saturday, Jan. 28, which will be the team’s final preparation before the 2023 Patriot League Championships come to Lewisburg on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team rounded out its dual meet schedule with a dominant 194-73 victory over rival Lehigh Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison took first place in 11 events and finished runners-up in 10 events. Bucknell also finished 1-2-3 in five different races.

Final Results

With the win, Bucknell improved to 6-2 (5-2 PL) on the season. The team has now secured back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2015.

Bucknell recognized its seniors prior to the start of the meet, and the class helped account for four first-place finishes as well as a runner-up spot against the Mountain Hawks on Saturday.

Senior Leo Kuyl won both the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle while also anchoring the first-place 200 medley relay team. Joining Kuyl with multiple wins on the afternoon were Chris Kopac in the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, and Andy Dorsel in the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke.

Senior Christian Stef (200 freestyle), Chris Fabian (100 backstroke), Will Hedges (100 breaststroke) and Braden Beagle (200 backstroke) rounded out the Bison winners. Fabian also swam leadoff in the winning 200 medley relay, joining teammates Justin DiSanto and John Gehrig in the effort.

DiSanto, Gehrig, and Fabian continued to tally points for the Bison with second-place finishes as well.

Bucknell was outstanding in the 1000 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle, claiming the top three spots in each of those events.

Bucknell is back home next weekend to host the Bison Invite on Saturday, Jan. 28, which will be the team’s final preparation before the 2023 Patriot League Championships come to Lewisburg on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – In the final dual meet of the year the Lehigh women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Bucknell, 181-109 at Kinney Natatorium Saturday afternoon. 

“After stepping off the plane at 8:30 p.m. last night and getting back to Lehigh at almost 11 p.m., and turning it around and getting ourselves up to Bucknell, I think the team did pretty well,” said head coach Rob Herb.

Senior Sarah Hardy continues to shine for Lehigh. She led Lehigh with three first-place finishes on Saturday. Hardy came in first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.64), the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.77) and the 200-yard IM (2:06.33).

The 400-yard freestyle relay finished in first with a time of 3:33.73. The relay team was comprised of first-year Cailtin Deitch, first-year Mairin Ludwig, junior Sarah Manthrop and sophomore Willa Werweiss. 

Stevens was the only other Lehigh swimmer to come in first tonight. She won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.14 and came in second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.22). Stevens was in second, finishing behind Hardy. 

Werwaiss gave Lehigh four points with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.45)

Besides being on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, Deitch had a couple of second-place finishes. She took second behind Stevens in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.12 and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (53.27). 

Danielle Prekop picked up three points in the 200-yard IM (2:12.43) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.04). 

Senior Hallie Wilson also place third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.90

Lehigh will travel back to Lewisburg next week when the Mountain Hawks compete in the Bucknell Invitational on Jan. 28.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team was bested by Bucknell Saturday afternoon, suffering a 194-73 loss at Kinney Natatorium to the Bison in the final dual meet of the year. 

The Mountain Hawks dominated the 200-yard IM. Junior Miles Cox led the way with a time of 1:58.08. James Zhang took second, and Ben Kisker came in third. 

Kisker also took second in the 100-yard backstroke (51.97) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.44).

The 200-yard medley relay with sophomore Elvin LeeAiden McCurley, first-year Aaron Williams and first-year Jack Devilbiss came in second (1:34.28). 

Lee had a strong showing on Saturday. He finished in first in the 100-yard butterfly (50.30) and tallied three more points for Lehigh in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.15). Following Lee in the 200-yard freestyle was Connor Goodyear in fourth and Tim Norris in fifth (1:45.17)

Alex Patti had three points for Lehigh as well, coming in third in the 100-yard butterfly (51.33).

Sophomore Sean Davis and junior Connor Drucis finished fourth and fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle. Davis tallied two points with a fourth place finish, finishing in 10:05. 74 (1:44.43) and Drucis (10:20.35). 

The Mountain hawks will head back to Lewisburg on Jan. 28 when Lehigh competes in the Bucknell Invitational.
