WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team opened its season with a 175-117 victory over Holy Cross on Friday at the Hart Center.

The Bison (1-0, 1-0 PL) moved to 6-0 all-time against the Crusaders (0-2, 0-1 PL) on the strength of 11 individual victories and one relay win.

Remarkably, 11 different Bison accounted for their team’s individual first-place showings. Junior Alexandra Ritorto, sophomores Abby Doss and Esme Hunter and first years Gina Hinthorn and Kendall Luecke each won her first collegiate event at Holy Cross.

Maddie Hartigan broke a Hart Center Pool record in the 100 butterfly, timing in at 57.74. Meghan TanerCatherine CraigAlexis Faria and Sophia Donati teamed for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay behind a pool-record time of 1:48.19.

The Bison went 1-2-3 in the 200 freestyle and the 200 medley relay. With the meet well in hand, they swam the 100 butterfly, 200 IM and 200 freestyle relay as exhibitions.

Bucknell returns to the pool tomorrow with a 1:30 p.m. meet at Boston University.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team cruised past Holy Cross, 178-111, in its season opener on Friday at the Hart Center.

The Bison (1-0, 1-0 PL) improved to 6-0 all-time against Holy Cross (0-2, 0-1 PL) behind 11 individual victories and one relay win.

Junior Leo Kuyl (50 freestyle) and sophomore John Gehrig (100 butterfly) each broke a Hart Center Pool record; the 50 freestyle standard had stood since 1990 while the 100 butterfly mark was set in 2006. In addition, Kuyl teamed with sophomore Chris Fabian, junior Ryaan Hatoum and senior Liam Pitt to break the pool record in the 200 medley relay, which was set in 1990.

Earlier in the day, Fabian set a new Hart Center Pool record in the 50 freestyle, which was then broken by Kuyl during his lead-off leg of the 200 freestyle relay.

Senior Will Cadwallader swept the boards while nine different Bison touched the wall first in swimming races. Fabian, senior Sam Sweeney and freshmen Chris Kopac and Justin DiSanto each won his first collegiate event at Holy Cross.

Bucknell enjoyed 1-2-3 performances in four events: the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay. With the meet well in hand, the Bison swam the 100 butterfly, 200 IM and 200 freestyle relay as exhibitions.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Katy Saladin had a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, but the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Iona 175-117 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Bison open the year 1-0.

Saladin won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.90 and also claimed second place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.02). Holy Cross had several other second-place finishes on the afternoon, including junior Abigail Bryant in the one-meter diving (238.19), sophomore Ayden Chanin in the 100-yard freestyle (54.23), junior Nicoletta Kalavantis in the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.40) and sophomore Greta Walting in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.84).

The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they take part in the Worcester City Invitational.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Patrick Walsh had a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, but the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Bucknell 178-111 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 0-2 on the year, while the Bison open the season 1-0.

Walsh won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:47.54. A number of other Crusaders had second-place finishes, including sophomore Chris Clow in the three-meter diving (194.24), freshman Rory Hess in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.71) and freshman Luca Moscetti in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:26.62).

The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they take part in the Worcester City Invitational.
