Buffalo Gets a Verbal Commitment from Colorado’s Brittney Beetcher

Boulder, Colorado’s Brittney Beetcher has made a verbal commitment to swim for the University at Buffalo beginning with the 2017-18 season.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Buffalo! [sic] The people at UB are amazing including the team, coaches & support staff and made Buffalo the best choice for me.  Becoming part of their family atmosphere is exactly what will make competing for the Bulls so fun! ”

A senior at Fairview High School, Beetcher is the defending Colorado state champion in the 200 and 500 freestyles. She helped lead Fairview to the team title at the 2016 Colorado 5A state championships. In addition to the points she scored in individual events, Beetcher contributed to Fairview’s 4×50 free and 4×100 free relays (splitting 23.8 and 51, respectively).

Beetcher swims year-round with RallySport Aquatic Club. Beetcher gravitates toward the longer races (she was an alternate for Team USA in the 2016 FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships), but is also competitive in the 200 fly and 400 IM. She is a six-time individual All-American, and is a junior nationals-level qualifier in the 200/500/1000/1650 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM.

Her top SCY times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.68
  • 500 free – 4:50.24
  • 1000 free – 9:58.74
  • 1650 free – 16:39.71
  • 400 IM – 4:19.75
  • 200 fly – 2:01.34

Beetcher is a nice pick-up for the Bulls. She would have scored second in both the 500 and 1650 freesytle events, behind then-senior Jess Powers of Buffalo, at the 2016 MAC Championships. She also would have been runner-up in the 400 IM and sixth in the 200 fly. Buffalo was locked in a close battle for third with Bowling Green and Miami of Ohio last year, finishing 23.5 points behind the former and 44 ahead of the latter.
