ITHACA, N.Y – The University at Buffalo Swimming and Diving team opened their season Saturday with a meet in the Teagle Pool at Cornell University. Unofficial scoring had the Bulls beating the Bears 174-126, highlighted by Victoria Franz breaking the pool record in 1-meter diving (307.13)
THE POOL
The meet began with Buffalo edging out Cornell by just a second in the 200-medley relay, with the team of Mia Naccarella, Madi Tewksbury, Nicole Aguilar and Aurelie Walker finishing in 1:46.20.
The Bulls continued their strong performance in the 100-yard backstroke, with Naccarella (55.91), Abigail Malmstrom (58.16) and Vivian Roy (59.54) being the top three finishers.
Buffalo had the first, second and third place finishers yet again in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Kasey Keaney (1:07.11), Tewksbury (1:07.41) and Grace Rider (1:07.82) all finishing within a second of each other.
THE DIVING WELL
The Bulls took their early momentum in the pool and dominated the diving portion of the competition against the Bears too.
Presley Dorsett placed first in the 3-meter diving event with 268.58 points, with teammates Marialis Kwak placing third (253.95), Mallory Hanna finishing fourth (244.95) and Maggie Meyers placing fifth (235.73), leaving just one Cornell diver finishing within the top five.
The performance continued over into the 1-meter diving event, with the Bulls being led by Franz’s pool record. The top five was then rounded out by all Buffalo divers, with Kwak finishing second (263.70), Dorsett third (254.10), Hanna fourth (251.55) and Sophie Meuwissen fifth (237.98).
“Im proud of how the women competed today on the road against a very good Cornell team,” said Head Coach Andy Bashor. “I was very happy with the energy that they had. We are excited to get back to training and work on the corrections from this meet so we are better moving forward.”

The Bulls are back in action on October 28th, when the Ball State Cardinals visit Buffalo. The action begins at the Alumni Arena Natatorium and Dorsi Raynolds Pool at 11am.
