The University at Buffalo women’s swimming & diving team had a dominant performance in their home opening meet on Saturday against MAC foe Toledo as the Bulls earned the 218-82 victory. UB has now won their first two meets of the season after downing Cornell last weekend.
The Bulls were opened up the meet in dominant fashion as they were able to collect victories in each of the first seven events before the first break. UB opened up with a win in the 200 medley relay as the team of Nicole Roitenberg, Grace Baumer, Olivia Sapio and Megan Burns notched a season-best time of 1:44.72 to earn the victory.
Senior Hannah Miller then hit the water and collected a strong win in the 1000 freestyle as she finished in a season-best time of 10:18.41. Miller wasted no time getting back in the water as she back in action in the very next race, the 200 freestyle. The senior was able to excite the crowd as she raced from behind and touched the wall just ahead of her opponent from Toledo to earn the win in 1:53.31.
Freshman Nicole Roitenberg had a strong victory in the 100 backstroke as she raced to a season-best time of 56.45 while Grace Baumer notched the win in the 100 breaststroke in a season-best 1:05.02. Freshman Brittany Beetcher put in a solid season-best time of 2:05.72 in the 200 butterfly to collect the win while senior Megan Burns continued her dominance in the 50 freestyle as she won the event with a season-best time of 23.31.
After the break, the Bulls had a pair of strong perfoirmances in the 100 freestyle as Megan Burnswon the event in 50.43 and Eve Kosten posted a season-best time of 53.01. Roitenberg and Baumer was able to collect their second wins of the meet in the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke respectively. Roitenberg won the 200 backstroke in 2:03.55 while Baumer finished off her race in 2:20.93. Miller earned her third win of the day in the 500 freestyle as she posted a season-best time of 5:02.86. In the 100 butterfly, UB saw freshman Olivia Sapio earn the win in 55.96 in the first heat while Victoria Butler won heat two in 59.61. Sapio then closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 individual medley as she finished in 2:06.55.
In the diving well, senior Kelly Moran impressed the home fans as she was able to collect the win in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive. In the 3-meter dive, Moran earned a score of 289.58 while her teammate Olivia Gosselin came in second with a score of 247.58. The competition was even closer in the 1-meter dive as Moran just edged out Gosselin for the win as she collected a score of 256.58 and Gosselin scored 256.43.
Buffalo will return to the pool next weekend as they head to MAC foe Ohio on Saturday, November 4 for a 12:00 pm start.
