The University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team was able to continue their strong start to the season on Saturday afternoon as they collected the victory over Cornell by the score of 165-131.
“I am very proud of the women today and how they stepped up to compete against Cornell,” said head coach Andy Bashor. “We had a tough week of training and the format of the meet was a challenge to the women. I really liked the way the women finished the back half of the meet today. It shows that we are training well.”The University at Buffalo women’s swimming and diving team was able to continue their strong start to the season on Saturday afternoon as they collected the victory over Cornell by the score of 165-131.
Individually, the Bulls saw five different swimmers collect victories in their respective events. In the 50 freestyle, Eve Kosten had a strong victory in 24:12 while freshman Jillian Lawton was able to race to a third place finish in 24:34. Lawton was able to make up for her third place finish in the 100 freestyle as she collected her first collegiate victory in the event in 53:02 while Hannah Millerearned second place in a season-best time of 53:46.
Grace Baumer continued her strong start to the season in the 100 breaststroke as she earned the victory in 1:07.37. In the 200 freestyle race, Miller was able to earn the win in a season-best time of 1:54.13 while the Bulls were able to earn the top two spots in the 400 individual medley. Victoria Butler collected the win in 4:35.63 while Nicole Roitenberg placed second in 4:36.13.
The Buffalo relay teams were dominant on Saturday afternoon as they were able to collect four relay victories. Senior Megan Burns was once again in the middle of the action for the Bulls as she was a part of all four winning relay teams. The 400 medley relay team of Roitenberg, Baumer, Olivia Sapio and Megan Burns raced to a first place finish in a season-best 3:50.61. The 200 medley relay squad of Megan Burns, Baumer, Sapio and Kosten raced to the win in 1:47.05. The 200 freestyle relay team of Sapio, Megan Burns, Sarah Baxter and Kosten won in 1:36.16 while the 400 freestyle relay team of Sapio, Megan Burns, Baxter and Hannah Miller also earned first place in 3:32.38.
In the diving well, Buffalo was able to collect the victory in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive. In the 1-meter dive, Olivia Gosselin earned the win with a score of 238.00 while senior Kelly Moran finished second with a score of 234.25. In the 3-meter dive, Moran was able to collect the win in the event as she scored 284.85 points while Gosselin earned fifth place with a score of 208.05.
Buffalo will return home next weekend as they welcome the Toledo Rockets for an 11:00 am MAC meet.
