The University at Buffalo’s diving team finished up their UB Diving Invitational today with the platform dives. The women all placed in the Top-Five; while the men placed first through fourth.

Nick Rodriguez had another outstanding performance in the diving well. Rodriguez placed first on the one-meter on Friday, first on the three-meter on Saturday, and first on the platform Sunday. Rodriguez was sitting in first place after preliminaries with a score of 299.55. The senior from Central Square, NY blew the competition away in the finals. He posted an overall score of 327.00, over 20 points higher than second place finisher, and teammate, Dan Roche. On Friday, Roche finished in sixth on the one-meter and Saturday he finished in eighth. On the platform dive, Roche posted a score of 301.25, enough to qualify for NCAA Zones. In order to qualify for NCAA Zones, a male must post a score of at least 300. Rodriguez has previously qualified, however, this is junior Dan Roche‘s first time qualifying. Kristian Santos and Troy Birdsall performed well for the Bulls again today. Santos posted a score of 270.00 which landed him a third place finish; while Birdsall had a score of 248.80 for a fourth place finish.

The women were able to take second through fourth in the platform dives, behind Ohio University’s Olivia Dillon. After finishing seventh on the three-meter dive Friday and sixth on the one-meter dive Saturday, senior Mackenzie Moss worked hard and found herself a second place finish on the platform dive in the finals. Moss was sitting in the first place spot after preliminaries ahead of Ohio’s Dillon. Upon posting a final score of 216.85, Moss dropped to second place. Right behind her was freshman teammate, Oliva Gosselin. Gosselin took third place with a score of 213.45, after finishing in fourth in the preliminaries. Abbey Croce took fourth in the finals for the Bulls with a score of 176.65.

The women will be back in action again when they travel to Bowling Green on January 20th for a 5:00 pm meet; while the men will travel to Miami (OH) on January 21st for a 1:00 pm meet.
