Burns Wins 3 as Buffalo Falls to Miami (OH)

Miami (OH) bested the Buffalo women on Saturday, 170.5-129.5. Buffalo’s Megan Burns won 3 individual races, taking the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.02), 50 yard freestyle (23.21), and 100 yard freestyle (50.68).

OXFORD, OH – UB women’s swimming and diving headed to Miami (OH.) for their second MAC meet of the year. They were looking for their second-straight conference win after beating Ball State last weekend. Unfortunately, the Bulls lost, 170.5-129.5, in the pool and the diving well.

Despite the loss, UB won seven of 16 events. Megan Burns won three individual events and swam the final leg in the 400 yard freestyle relay team that finished second. She finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:51.02), 50 yard freestyle (23.21), and the 100 yard freestyle (50.68).

Jessica Powers won in the 1000 yard and 500 yard freestyle races and picked up a third-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle. Impressively, the 1000 yard and 200 yard freestyle were back-to-back in the dual meet.

Sarah Baxter finished second place in the 50 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle, and the 200 IM. Julia Boxfinished second and only .19 from first in the 100 yard backstroke. In the 100 yard butterfly Box finished first with a time of 56.89.

Hannah Miller finished behind Powers in the 1000 yard freestyle before finishing fourth in 500 freestyle.

Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will next compete at the Bucknell Invite. They will compete from November 20-22.

OXFORD, Ohio — Miami University’s swimming & diving team defeated Buffalo, 170.5-129.5, pushing their overall record to 3-2 and Mid-American Conference record to 2-1.

The diving squad of juniors Pei Lin, Taylor LeCount and Jenna Karrow swept both diving events. In the three-meter dive, LeCount took first place (269.48), Karrow took second (258.08) and Lin placed third (257.17). In the one-meter event, Lin won the event (297.07), followed by LeCount (257.24) and Karrow (246.30).

The 100-yard breaststroke was swept by the RedHawks, with junior Stephanie LeMire finishing in first place in the race for the second time this season (1:05.39). She was followed by sophomores Holly Schuster (1:05.53) and Lainey Massaro (1:06.68).

LeMire also touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:20.78 and the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 2:07.77.

Two other RedHawk swimmers won individual events. Junior Brittany Dudzinski won the 100-yard backstroke (57.04), while senior Michele Rielly finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.53).

The relay teams played a big role in RedHawks win over the Bulls, capturing both races. The team of Dudzinski, Schuster, senior Gabby Veri and seniorNatalie Rohr won the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:46.09. Junior Logan Klinsky, freshman Grace Van Fossen, Rohr and senior Sara Krueger clocked in first in the 400-yard free relay at 3:30.03.

Miami is off for two weeks before they travel to Columbus to take on Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. LeMire will be competing in the Minnesota Grand Prix from Nov. 12-14.
