Butterflier Jessica Bonezzi Makes Early Commitment To Akron

Hometown butterflier Jessica Bonezzi has announced that she has committed to swim for Akron. With best times of 55.30 in the 100 butterfly and 2:02.88 in the 200 butterfly, she should do very well within the Mid-American conference.
“It was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made. The team has a great, hardworking atmosphere, the coaches are knowledgeable and encouraging, and the school is also great academically with strong support from staff and advisors. The campus is beautiful and so is the pool and training facilities. It is all around the best fit for me. I cant wait to be a Zip!”
Her announcement marks another early commitment from a class of 2016. A year ago, early commitments in swimming were very rare. Katie Ledecky was one of the first swimmers last year to commit early to Stanford, but with her resume, that is understandable. She could have picked up the phone and called any school in the country and received a full ride. There were a few other early commitments from the class of 2015 last year, but most were to top 10 programs.
This is one of the first early commitments to an NCAA Mid-Major program, which shows how the recruiting trends are beginning to change. College recruiting will significantly pick up on July 1st, the first day college coaches are allowed to call incoming high school seniors.

Great choice. Glad she didn’t go to the black hole in Athens. Good luck at Akron!
