Butterflier Katie Cho Commits to UCSD Beginning Fall 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Katie Cho, a current high school senior from Fullerton, California, has committed to swim for Division I University of California at San Diego. Cho will graduate from Sunny Hills High School in spring 2021 join the Triton’s class of 2025.

Cho is a current swimmer for the La Mirada Armada, where she specializes in the butterfly events. She is a Sectionals, Futures and Winter Junior Championships qualifier. Her most recent meet was at the 2019 SCS Race Series Championships where she placed 4th in both the 100 butterfly (55.41) and 200 butterfly (2:03.41).

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at UCSD! I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for supporting me throughout the years. Can’t wait to be a Triton! 🔱💛”

Top SCY Times

  • 50 freestyle – 24.74
  • 100 freestyle – 53.06
  • 500 freestyle – 5:02.20
  • 1,000 freestyle – 10:30.84
  • 1650 freestyle – 17:40.28
  • 100 butterfly – 55.41
  • 200 butterfly – 2:01.56

At the 2020 MPSF Championships, Cho would have placed 4th in the 200 butterfly (2:01.56), 11th in the 100 butterfly (55.41), and 16th in the 500 freestyle (5:02.20) with her current best times.

With her time in the 200 butterfly, Cho would have been UCSD’s fastest 200 butterfly swimmer at the championship meet. She also would have been the Triton’s third fastest 100 butterflier.

At the MPSF Championships earlier this year, the Triton women placed 5th as a team under head coach Marko Djordjevic. When Cho arrives at UCSD, they will be in year 2 of the 4-year transition to full NCAA Division I membership. They will be able to remain in the MPSF, which is a multi-division conference, as D1 members, with most of their sports teams joining the Big West. The Big West does not currently sponsor swimming & diving championships.

Twenty-eight team members were CSCAA Scholar All-Americans and the team was given a CSCAA Scholar All-American rank.
