Butterfly Specialist Cameron Kuriger Commits to FGCU for Fall 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Cameron Kuriger from Columbus, Ohio has announced her commitment to continue her swimming and academic careers at Florida Gulf Coast University beginning in fall 2022.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Florida Gulf Coast University! So grateful and thankful for all the support, love, and help I’ve received along the way! GO EAGLES!!!

Kuriger swims for Buckeye Swim Club out of Columbus, OH. She most recently competed at the Geneva Sectionals meet. There she set a best time long course in the 50 freestyle in a time of 28.05. She also was just off her best time in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.62 earning her seventh place. Back in January 2021, she swam to best short course times in the 50 (24.25) and 200 (1:52.27) freestyles as well as the 200 IM (2:05.22).

Kuriger will enter her senior year this fall at Olentangy High School in Lewis Center, OH. At the end of February of this year, she won the 100 butterfly at the Ohio Division I (big schools) State Championships. She swam a best time of 54.14. Her best short course times are:

  • 100 butterfly: 54.14
  • 200 butterfly: 1:59.23
  • 200 IM: 2:05.22
  • 200 freestyle: 1:52.27

FGCU is a public university located in Fort Myers, Florida. The school is a member of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA). At the 2021 CCSA Women’s Championship, the FGCU women tied Liberty University for the conference championship. It was their 10th conference title in program history. Rising senior Wiktoria Czarnecka placed 2nd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.51, and graduating senior Petra Halmai won the 200 IM in a time of 1:59.02.

FGCU also was represented at the 2021 NCAA National Championship meet. Halmai competed in the 200 IM as well as the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Halmai swam a best time of 2:06.69 in the 200 breaststroke earning her an 11th place finish. She was the first FGCU swimmer to reach a final at the NCAA level since 2016.

Kuriger has the potential to make a huge impact for FGCU at both the conference and national level. Her best times would have earned her a 2nd place finish in the 200 fly, 4th place in the 100 butterfly, 8th in the 200 freestyle, and 11th in the 200 IM at the 2021 conference meet. Her best 200 butterfly time also is the exact 2022 NCAA Division I ‘B’ standard. It took a time of 1:57.42 to be invited to the 2021 NCAA Championships.

Kuriger will join FGCU as a member of the class of 2026 along with Liv Hettinger and Annabelle Thompson. They will arrive on campus in fall 2022.
