500 Yard Freestyle
Jana Burkard of Pacific opened the score with a 4:49.61 win in the women’s 500 free. BYU’s Ellie Thornbrue was second in 4:51.81, while Cherelle Oestringer of Hawaii placed third in 4:52.07.
In the men’s race, Hawaii went 1-3 with Jonas Gutzat (4:21.39) and Kacy Johnson (4:26.87). Santa Barbara’s Logan Hotchkiss went 4:24.91 for second.
200 Yard Individual Medley
Hawaii’s Franziska Weidner broke the MPSF record in the 200 IM and only missed Tracy Caulkins’ 1979 pool mark by .07 when she touched in 1:57.93. Bri Jurries (1:59.59) was runner-up, while Pacific’s Whitney Jorgensen rounded out the podium in 2:00.91.
BYU’s Jake Taylor followed with a championship record in the next event; he clocked a 1:43.83 to lower his own MPSF mark, set two years ago, by 1.1 seconds. Teammate Preston Jenkins (1:46.76) touched second; Dylan Kubick of Santa Barabara, third with 1:47.17.
50 Yard Freestyle
In the 50 free, Santa Barbara’s Lauren Vosseler went 22.71 to claim first place. Kenna Ramey (22.91) edged Kirsten Brand (22.92) by 1/100 for second.
Payton Sorenson of BYU won the men’s 50 free in 19.57, just off his own MPSF record of 19.53 which he set in prelims. Pacific teammates Yahav Shahaff (20.03) and Miles Mackenzie (20.12) completed the podium.
1-Meter Diving
Hawaii jumped up to second place in the women’s team standings with a 1-2-3 sweep in 1-meter diving. Aimee Harrison won the event with 310.50 points; Monica Gavaris was runner-up with 289.60, while Lauren Hall placed third with 286.15.
Kevin Dreesen of BYU was the winner of the men’s 1-meter boards with 388.75 points.
200 Yard Freestyle Relay
Santa Barbara won a very close 200 free relay with Kimmie Kreuzberger (23.22), Julia Mikota (22.82), Charis Hoppe (22.90), and Vosseler (22.09). The quartet combined for 1:31.03, while Hawaii finished in second with 1:31.56 and Davis took third in 1:31.68.
The men’s 200 free relay was another thriller, as BYU’s Sorenson (19.67), Connor Stirling (19.49), Jenkins (19.93), and Taylor (19.46) came to the wall in 1:18.55 in front of Pacific (1:18.92) and Cal Poly (1:21.07).
