BYU Women’s Swim & Dive Announce Five Names To 2023 Signing Class

PROVO, Utah — BYU swim coach Shari Skabelund and dive coach Tyce Routson have announced their 2023 recruiting class, signing 10 new athletes set to join the program in 2023.

For the women, the 2023 class includes swimmers Rachel Ballard, Abril Arias, Kara Martinson and Victoria Schreiber, along with diver Aubryn Ordyna.

“We are really looking forward to this recruiting class,” said Skabelund. “They bring energy and passion and we have loved recruiting them. They are solid individuals who will be great additions to our roster.”

Rachel Ballard | Swimmer | 5-9 | Columbine High School | Littleton, Colorado

  • Four-time swim athletic letter awardee (2019-2022)
  • Four-time swim and dive academic athletic letter awardee (2019-2022)
  • Four-time All-Conference selection (2019-2022)
  • Current holder of 6 high school records (4 individual events and 2 relay events)
  • Four-time swim and dive Columbine MVP (2019-2022)
  • 5A state finalist in the 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 100 freestyle
  • High school team won its first Jefferson County League Championship in its 50 year history (2021-2022)
  • Part of the gold medal relay team at the Speedo Sectionals in Mt. Hood Oregon for her club the Denver Hilltoppers
  • Her club women’s team took first place in the Speedo Sectionals in Austin, Texas

Abril Arias | Swimmer | 5-4 | CECYT Preparatoria | San Diego, California

  • Participated in the Worlds Swimming Junior Championships (2022)
  • CCCAN Barbados (2019)
  • Set the national record in the 200 IM

Kara Martinson | Swimmer | 5-11 | Weddington High School | Weddington, North Carolina

  • Three-time All-Conference (2019-2022)
  • USA Swimming National Age Group Award (2022)
  • Weddington Warrior Award (2022)

Victoria Schreiber | Swimmer | 5-8 | Brighton High School | Brighton, Michigan

  • Four-time Scholar Athlete (2019-2022)
  • Four-time All-American at states (2019-2022)
  • High school team captain (2022)
  • 2nd place at conferences in 500 and 200-yard freestyle (2022)
  • State champion in 500-yard freestyle (2021)
  • Brighton High School pool record in 500-yard freestyle (2021-present)
  • 1st place at conferences in 500-yard freestyle and 2nd place in 200-yard freestyle (2021)
  • Livingston County Swimmer of the Year (2020-2021)
  • 2nd place at states in 200 and 500-yard freestyle (2020)

Aubryn Ordyna | Diver | 5-7 | Mountain View High School | Mesa, Arizona

  • 6A Mesa City Champion
  • 6A Arizona State Runner-up
  • Mountain View High School 1-meter record holder
  • USA Dive National Qualifier
  • Four-time dive MVP
  • 6A Athlete of the Week
