The seven-member 2017 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Swimming and Diving All-Academic team has been selected by a vote of the league’s member sports information directors, highlighted by Rice’s three selections to the squad. In order to qualify for nomination to the team, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and serve as a key competitor of their respective team.
Alexis DeLisle | Florida Atlantic | So. | Orlando, Florida
DeLisle has earned a 3.91 GPA while studying environmental biological science and competing in all 13 of Florida Atlantic’s meets this season. The sophomore posted lifetime best times in the 50 (28.45) and 100 backstroke (1:00.55) as well as a season-best time in the 50 freestyle (25.50) at the George Mason Invitational. The Orlando, Florida, native also swam a season-best time of 54.09 in the 100 freestyle to take second place against Campbell. DeLisle was a member of the Fall 2016 Dean’s List and was named to the FAU 3.0 GPA list for that semester.
Letizia Bertelli | FIU | Jr. | Cremona, Italy
Bertelli, a C-USA Commissioner’s Medal recipient, has earned a 3.82 GPA while studying international business. The junior swam in all 12 of FIU’s meets this season and notched NCAA B Standard qualifying marks six times. Bertelli owns C-USA top times in the 100 Free (49.32), 50 (25.27) and 100 Butterfly (53.91), while finishing among the top three in events competed in 25 times this season. The Cremona, Italy, native’s season-best time in the 100 Free led FIU to a second-place finish at the Louisville Invitational.
Anna Lynch | Marshall | So. | Oakwood, Ohio
Lynch, a member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal, has earned a 4.0 GPA while studying international business and competing in all 10 of Marshall’s meets this season. The sophomore earned two individual wins this season in the 200 freestyle (1:55.46) and the 1650 freestyle (17:18.61), while registering a lifetime best in the 1000 freestyle (10:24.02) against Vanderbilt. The Oakwood, Ohio, native is a student of the Honors College at Marshall and also a member of the dean’s list.
Samantha Scheck | North Texas | Sr. | Conroe, Texas
Scheck, a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Academic Medal recipient, maintains a 3.93 GPA while studying kinesiology and competing in seven diving meets on North Texas’ schedule this season. The senior posted a season-best score of 236.24 on the one-meter board in a victory over TCU and swept the diving events at the Little Rock Invitational, including a season-best score of 249.00 on the three-meter board. Scheck has been named to North Texas’ President’s list five semesters of her collegiate career.
Anniina Ala-Seppälä | Rice | Sr. | Hollola, Finland
Ala-Seppälä, a two-time C-USA Academic Medalist and a four-time C-USA Academic Honor Roll member, has earned a 3.79 GPA as a political science major with a minor in poverty, justice and human capabilities. The senior has battled back from some nagging injuries this season to post times of 17:53.90 in the mile, 10:33.44 in the 1000, and 5:04.48 in the 500-freestyle. The Hollola, Finland, native was also a two-time peer academic advisor where she helped counsel Rice freshman student-athletes in all sports.
Alicia Caldwell | Rice | Sr. | Sydney, Australia
Caldwell, a two-time C-USA Swimmer of the Week, holds a 3.31 GPA while studying economics and managerial studies. The senior posted the second best time in C-USA this season in the 200-freestyle (1:48.24), and the third-best mark in the league in the 200-backstroke (1:59.55). The Sydney, Australia, native also swam a 50.61 in the 100-freestyle and a 55.30 in the 100-backstroke with both times among the top eight C-USA times this year. Caldwell is a two-time C-USA Academic Honor Roll member and a Rice University Honor Athlete.
Marie-Claire Schillinger | Rice | So. | Orinda, California
Schillinger, a two-time C-USA Academic Medalist, maintains a 3.77 GPA in psychology and kinesiology (sports medicine). The sophomore owns the league’s top times in both the 100 and 200-breaststroke events with a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying times of 1:01.37 and 2:11.67, respectively. Schillinger also registered a 2:03.97 in the 200-individual medley to rank among the top 10 times in the conference. The Orinda, California, native is a member of Rice University’s President’s Honor Roll as well as a CSCAA Academic All-America Honorable Mention honoree.
