CA High School Water Polo Coach Accused of Sex With Student

A former high school water polo coach in Irvine, California has been arrested and accused of having sex with a minor, a female high school student.

23-year-old Coleman Pickell was a junior varsity water polo coach at Irvine’s University High School, and was arrested on Tuesday morning after the allegations surfaced, according to the LA Times.

The Irvine Unified School District told the LA Times that Pickell would no longer be coaching and was not to have any future contact with students at any school in the district:

“[E]ffective immediately, Mr. Pickell will no longer coach or have contact with students at University High School, or through any Irvine Unified school,” the district said in a statement. “IUSD takes these allegations very seriously and will continue to work closely with the Irvine Police Department as it moves forward with the investigation.”

“The Irvine Unified School District’s number one priority is the safety and well being of our students. We have zero tolerance for any behavior that does not support our values, our commitment to integrity, and our service to students.”

Pickell was booked at the Orange County Jail, with a more full investigation and formal charges to follow.
