SCRANTON, Pa. – The second-ever Atlantic East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off the three-day event at Marywood University on Friday, with Cabrini University leading on the men’s and women’s side through day one.
On the men’s side, Cabrini collected 280 points with four first-place finishes in the first finals session. The Cavs sealed up both relays for the day in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.48) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:50.24). They grabbed two individual golds as well, with Cameron Mousley topping his conference record from last season with a time of 4:46.38 and Mac Granto grinding out the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22 seconds flat.
Marymount, who earned a gold finish by Tedd Pham in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.51), sit in second for day one with 144 points, while Immaculata University and Marywood University rounded out day one with 108 points and 99 points, respectively.
On the women’s side, Cabrini concluded day one with 240 points, claiming two individual victories. Maddie Werndl collected the gold in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:23.87, and Sarah Gudas solidified the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.75.
The Saints are close behind with 203 points, taking both relays for the day. They scored gold in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.03) and end the day with a new conference record in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:07.24.
Marywood sits third through day one with 188 points, highlighted by the first one-meter diving session in the Atlantic East Conference Championship ever. Bri Koehnke set the bar in the first diving effort, collecting 430 points to take the gold.
Immaculata rounded out the women’s side with 89 points.
Day two starts up at 10 a.m., on Saturday, February 15 with another preliminaries session and is followed with a finals session at 6 p.m. Prior to the start of the finals session, the Atlantic East will recognize the senior classes from each institution.
