Caeleb Dressel Breaks 50 Freestyle NAG Record Tie in Florida

After tying the 15-16 50 free National Age Group Record in the 50 free in a time trial on Wednesday before departing the 2013 USA Swimming National Championships, Caeleb Dressel went home to swim a meet in his home pool at Bolles this weekend, as he didn’t have the World Championship Trials qualifying time in that sprint.

The effort to get home in time for the meet, as Dressel paid off with a 22.59 to blow the tie wide open on Friday morning. That broke the dead-heat he had with Shayne Fleming at 22.72 for the all-time best mark.

He ages up on August 16th of this year, but is already just a tenth-of-a-second away from Fleming’s 17-18 National Record. To put that in perspective though, Great Britain’s Ben Proud was a 22.03 earlier this week at just 18 years old.

Editor’s note: official results were revised and Dressel’s record was adjusted from 22.56 to 22.59.

Adjusted to 22.59. Ok. You write it was on Friday morning so I understand it was in prelims. Has he swum in finals?

We just finished a year wondering if we will ever see high school boys of the Murphy or Conger caliber again…and now this kid. The future is so exciting and bright now for the USA. These three might wipe everyone else out in Rio…can’t wait to see them in next 3 years develop into their best.

Ben Proud was actually 22.01, not 22.03. Amazing!

Ehh you guys are forgetting about Brett Ringgold.. Yeah, that kid who broke vlad morozovs juniors record with the jammer. Oh, and I’ve heard that he wears 8 drag suits each practice. Might want to remember his name.
