Taking third place was Knoxville champ Luiz Martinez, who just cracked the top 10 times in the world.
Caeleb Dressel had his best finish tonight, taking 5th place by 0.02 behind Ryan Held (23.97) in his third race of the session.
Just me – BUT I am happy he wore a brief for prelims…better than swimming with no brief!!!
debateable
Seriously, growing weary of the Dressel excuse machine.
He doesn’t need an excuse, he’s a champion
some swimmers get real tapered for champs meets, and don’t taper at all inseason. it’s not an excuse but it could explain why.
Lol that’s what an excuse is
He got in a motorcycle accident. Michael Andrew was driving the motorcycle and hit him.
“Dressel did the 50 fly just a few minutes after his 50 breast. Of course it wasn’t his fastest.” “MA did the same thing and won the 50 fly.” “Well… it’s just a 50. That’s an easy double.”
Dressel does a lot more “distance” training than MA, he’s beat up in season but shaves wayyyy more than MA in taper because the way MA trains. He also can’t recover as quick
AND MA split a 21.25 free on the relay
Wow, it’s almost like the professional knows what he’s doing or something…who knew?
Does a tech suit really account for 1.8 seconds in 100 free? That’s the kind of improvement I used to think happened with the 2009 full body rubber suits.
I mean you can look at his duel meet times vs his SEC times and there’s a pretty significant difference between the two. He has a little bit more rest at SEC’s but the difference is mainly from the suit
Stepping up to race in prelims tends to be harder with morning grogginess and overall less pressure. Also you’ll be surprised how much a fastskin can help, considering how much it tightens the core and streamlines the body profile.
What core ??? His glutes?
uhhhh, yes.
It was a prelim swim, could have done a 49 with a brief in finals probably. The rubber suits would give you a 2.5 to 3 second faster 100 than with a brief. We’re starting to approach the old suits anyway, especially the mizuno. I say the mizuno is better than the LZR Racer from 08.
A suit doesn’t make THAT big of a difference in his 100 fr. I gotta believe he’s faster the. 50.4 in a brief.
Considering two guys broke 50 in a brief 43 YEARS AGO (!!!!), I’d hope so. But hey, he’s God to some people. He might want to ask Jonty, who’s old enough to be his grandfather, how to do it.
Maybe during the conversation he can tell Jonty what it’s like to go 47.17, or 48.7 in March for that matter.
lmao he goes 50.4 in briefs at prelims of a random March meet and all the sudden he’s washed. Give it a rest.
Y’all leave my boy Jonty out of this haha
No disrespect meant to the old legends. Just thought it was a stupid comparison lol.
Then you clearly haven’t worn some of today’s high-end suits…
His excuse doesn’t hold water. His coach can help him convert his suited time to his practice times if he is having trouble with the math
It was his CHOICE. There’s a difference.
When you get the American record in the 100 free, you can make your own decision wether or not to wear a suit, this was Caeleb’s choice. Just let it rest, it’s not the Olympic Trials
