Caeleb Dressel Makes Big Drops From District to Regional Meets

With the completion of the 2A Regional Championships today, the FHSAA has posted the full results from the four regional meets, including those belonging to Clay High School senior Caleeb Dressel.

Dressel went a 1:37.18 in the 200 yard free, a 47.48 in the 100 yard fly, led off the 200 free relay in 19.71, and led off the 400 free relay in 44.22 as the Clay High School boys took 3rd behind Stanton High School and Pensacola-Washington’s region champions. Those times are all a significant improvement over where he was at the district meet a week ago.

With the 2A State Championship running both prelims and finals on Saturday, November 9th, Dressel has now about 7 full days to rest, shave, and get his times back down toward the National High School Records in those races that so many fans are hoping to see.

His targets right now in those same three events are Tom Shields’ 1:33.83 in the 200 free, his own 45.89 in the 100 fly, and his own 19.36 in the 50 free. The national mark in the 100 free belongs to David Nolan in 42.34.

There were some other very notable results out of the Region 1 championship meet. Gulf Breeze freshman Anthony Davis won the 50 free in 21.68 – an impressive time for a 9th-grader. His sophomore teammate Tori Bindi swept the girls’ sprints with a 23.34 in the 50 free and a 50.63 in the 100 free (ahead of Sherridon Dressel, Caeleb’s little sister, who was 3rd in 52.26, among others).

Stanford-bound commit twice topped the podium for Eastside High School. He won the boys’ 100 free in 46.69, exactly one-tenth ahead of Washington junior Steffen Mount; later, Olmsted would take the 100 back in 50.89.

The girls’ 100 back went to Washington sophomore Brooke Ferrara, who knocked two-and-a-half seconds off of her districts time to go a 55.78 and crush her own lifetime best in the race.

The other name that there were lots of eyes on in this weekend’s regional action was Joseph Schooling, Josh Booth, and the Bolles boys. As Class 1A is still working through regionals, they have not released any results yet, but reports are that the Bolles 200 medley was within two seconds of the National High School Record that they set last year and have expectations of perhaps beating it again in a week.
