Florida’s Caeleb Dressel pulled off the threepeat tonight, touching in 18.23 to tie for the 2nd fastest performance of all time with his relay leadoff split from earlier in the session and his prelims swim from last season. Dressel now owns all 10 of the top 10 fastest performances in history.
NC State’s Ryan Held (18.60) was just .02 off his best time, while Texas’ Joseph Schooling (18.79) was also within hundredths of his best for 3rd. Auburn’s Zach Apple and Missouri’s Michael Chadwick tied for 5th behind them in 18.97. That was a best tiem for Chadwick, who broke 19 for the first time with his 18.99 this morning.
He has got a nice front Pine Apple hair cut LOL
Dressel has improved his stroke efficiency. It will pay off in long course.
thats the main Goal – we will see his improvements comes end of June or before …..
I think when your dealing with resting your body for 17.9 seconds you aren’t dealing with physiological issues but more nailing “the perfect race”. Start, breakout, turn etc.
He said he went 18.23 with a sloppy start and a sloppy second breakout.
Correct..and missed finish, that all added up to hearing what we did in that clip, versus talking about breaking 18.
The starter held them waaayyyy too long on the block. I think Dressel never got out of his start position. Couldn’t have helped.
I’m a big Dressel fan, but is Florida missing something with his taper? He goes 18.3 at SEC’s, but only drops to 18.2 at NCAA’s. Maybe when you are going THAT fast, it’s almost impossible to make quantum drops, but his rest, or shave, or suit can’t get him .3 seconds?
I don’t see the use of swimming so fast one month before the most important meet of the season. But I’m not a coach.
Yeah, I mean…it really hurts the USA during Olympic years….
I love sarcasm
as long as he qualifies in June , i dont care !!!
I don’t see the use in swimming slow… At any point… Ever
He’s had his fastest relay splits and been right on his best time again at 18.2, and his 100 fly looks stronger and we’ve yet to see the 100 freestyle.
He doesn’t get bonus points here if he went 19.5 last month. There is no “biggest taper” award at any championship meet. He just wrecked everyone at SECs because he’s fast and that’s what fast swimmers do, they swim fast.
Yes! Very well said.
SECs is one of the most exciting and competitive swim meets in the world.
