Swimming next to Florent Manaudou – the previous world record holder – at the 2019 ISL Grand Finale, the Cali Condors’ Caeleb Dressel reset the world record in the short course meters 50 free at 20.24.

Manaudou’s previous record of 20.26 was from the 2014 World Championships. Dressel owned the previous American and U.S. Open records at 20.43 (from 2018 Worlds) and 20.81 (from the College Park ISL meet).

The swim was Dressel’s third in under an hour. He had previously won the event twice this season (not including skins races) at the Naples (20.64) and College Park meets.

Energy Standard’s Manaudou was 20.69 for second place Friday, while London Roar’s Kyle Chalmers was third in 20.74.

Kyle actually equalled Cams Australian record of 20.75, so he did a PB!

1.88m? I thought he was over 1.90.

He’s 6’3″ in yards and inches. Which converts to about 190cm. And there’s always fudging in heights of athletes, so don’t take any of it as law. He’s tall, but by swimmers standards certainly not a giant.

What a pity Morozov wasn’t there

This is nit-picking, but why is the headline “Re-Sets Manaudou’s Record” instead of “BREAKS the record” ? “re-sets” makes it sound like Dressel broke it earlier and is re-breaking it now.

Dean Farris would have gone 18.9.

Wow, Greg Troy’s expression when they panned to him… Looked like he was thinking, “Oh yeah, I mean frankly I’m surprised he didn’t break 20.”

Genuinely one of the worst takes I’ve seen on swimswam… Dressel is built for the skins

His incredible vertical leap ability translates into a very large velocity off the start and turn. He’s in a class by himself.
