Former Cal All-American Anna “Nusi” Illes was named to the Hungary Women’s Water Polo Olympic Team on Tuesday.

Illes, a four-time All-American during her time in Berkeley, will be making her second consecutive Olympic appearance. She helped the Hungarians take fourth place at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Illes helped Hungary qualify for the 2020 Olympics by winning the Olympic Qualification Tournament in January. On Tuesday, Hungary announced its official final roster for the Olympic Games, which run Jan. 24-Aug. 7 at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center.

“We are so proud of Nusi,” Cal head coach Coralie Simmons said. “She was a model student-athlete during her time here at Cal and has that same focus and determination with the Hungarian National Team. Nusi is a terrific ambassador for Cal and we look forward to watching her compete in Tokyo.”

Illes had a decorated career at Cal. She earned All-American honors in each of her four years in Berkeley and helped the Bears reach the NCAA Championships every year. She played for Cal from 2014-18, sitting out the 2016 season because of the Olympics. Illes ranks seventh on the program’s all-time scoring list with 161 goals.
