Cal Picks Up Connor Green from Bluefish Swim Club

The Cal men have picked up a verbal commitment from Connor Green of the Bluefish Swim Club in New England.

Green is highly touted for his versatility, as he’s got Summer Juniors or better cuts in 7 different long course events. To really see how good he is, you have to scroll down to his long course times. There, he’s been 55.5 in the 100 back and 1:58.4 in the 200 back, as well as 2:05.1 and 4:20.2 in the 200 and 400 IM’s. Those times are among the best in the class, even though the times aren’t really all that well-reflected in all his yards times (49.3 and 1:45.4 – the 1:45.4 is the better of the two).

He’ll be another piece for a Cal backstroke group that has become one of their strongest with names like Jacob Pebley and Ryan Murphy overlapping with Green.

It’s hard to be certain about where Green’s yards times will settle out, as the Bluefish Swim Club doesn’t put in a big shave or taper for yards meets all that often, but one things sure: he’s very, very good.

The men’s class is slower-starting this year than the women’s, and there’s still plenty of huge names available, but Green is just Dave Durden’s second (announced) verbal commitment thus far.

I was confused as to why 55.5 was impressive then I saw that he was joining the Cal backstroke group so I assume it is his 100 and 200 back times.
