The 2017 NCAA runner-up California Golden Bears have released their schedules for the 2017-18 NCAA Season. They kicked off the season with the Queen of the Pool competition at Cal Poly on September 29. Kathleen Baker won that title, followed by teammates Sarah Darcel and Abbey Weitzeil.
The Bears continue the season on October 6-7 as they travel to Fresno for the Fresno State Invite. The following Monday, October 9, they travel to Salt Lake City for their first Pac-12 dual meet of the season against Utah. Some members of the team will close out the month of October by competing in the USA Swimming vs. Pac-12 meet on October 21-22.
The first home dual meet of the season falls on November 3, as Pac-12 foe Oregon State will make the trip to Berkeley. The next day, on November 4, the Bears face their first top 10 team of the season as they’ll host the NC State Wolfpack. After almost a 2 week break from competition, the swimmers will host Nevada on November 17. Meanwhile, the divers have their next meet from November 17-19 at the NAU Diving Invitational.
The Bears return to training for the rest of November, and will prepare to travel to their mid-season focus meet, the Georgia Fall Invitational in Athens, from December 1-3. The meet serves as an opportunity for the women to qualify for the NCAA meet early on. Their last meet of 2017 will be against San Jose State at home on December 20.
After a long break in December, divers return to competition at the UCLA diving invite on January 12-14. The swimmers return with a trip to Arizona on January 19-20. They face Arizona State in Tempe the first day and make the short trip to Tucson to face Arizona on the 2nd day of their trip.
Cal faces their 2nd top 10 opponent of the season as they travel to USC for a dual meet on January 26. The next day, they’ll remain in Los Angeles to battle the UCLA women. Their last regular season dual meet will be on the road, as they travel to Stanford to face the defending NCAA champion Stanford Cardinal.
The postseason begins with the Pac-12 Championships from February 21-24. The Pac-12 invite on Sunday, February 25 serves as a last chance qualifier for swimmers hoping to go to the NCAA meet. Those who qualify for NCAAs will head to Columbus on March 14-17, where they’ll battle for their 10th consecutive top 3 finish.
