California Pulls Ahead of Georgia, Leads By 84 After Day 2

A big night for California helped give them some breathing room with an 84 lead on the defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs. If Georgia has a great day tomorrow, they may be able to pull Cal back in by 40-50 points, but an 84 point lead will probably be too much for the Bulldogs to reel back in.

Tomorrows prelims session will most likely decide the outcome of the meet. If Georgia wants to contest for their third consecutive national title, they will need a lot of swimmers to step up and make an impact.

Below are graphs made by Price Fishback analyzing the actual scoring compared the predicted seeded scores. To read the full recap from the second night of finals, click here.

I’m happy for Missy and the Cal team. 🙂

Georgia had to be up 60 on day 1 to keep this close. They swam great in prelims but couldn’t come back and max out their points… this is too great a deficit. 20 points maybe, but 84… it’s over.
